We installed the popular auxiliary battery kit from GoWesty on Friday, and I have to admit there were a few forehead-slapping moments. These passing emotions had nothing to do with the wiring harness, the set up or the instructions...no, it was definitely due to user error.
- I didn't roll up the power windows before disconnecting the engine battery. Not smart on an overcast day with the weather tempted to bring rain.
- When dealing with the van I try to work slowly to prevent time-consuming mistakes. This project I wasted a lot of time with the fuse box working up the nerve to cut the B11 & B12 fuse wires. They must be cut in order to re-route the RV functions to there aux or "house" battery. Seriously, I must have held them for 5 minutes, scanning through all the wires in that port again and again. After I cut them, wrapped them, and everything worked post-install, I knew it was just fear of change and not advisable caution that held my hand.
- I didn't run the wire behind the fuse box initially then I had to patch it in.
- After it all came together I could have slapped my forehead. Really, it was easy, and I can't believe we didn't install it sooner.
As a partner-project, we didn't argue or crab. There were a few short moments, but as long as they weren't electrical shorts, what do I care?
Now the interior lights, radio, and 12v socket run on the aux. battery. Soon the Propex furnace will too, and that's the gift that keeps on giving.
